About Marie&herPots

The Author

I am a PhD researcher a the Faculty of Archaeology at Leiden University (The Netherlands) and an occasional lecturer at the National Autonomous University of Honduras. My research focus lies in the archaeology of Pacific Honduras, community engagement, and in the production & circulation of ceramic and lithic artefacts. Other interests include the intersection between modern subsistence practices, crafting practices, and the perception of landscape. I also tweet about my research @marieandherpots. All views are my own!

The Blog

The concept for Marie&herPots came from a linguist friend, to whom, on a sunny afternoon in 2017, I decided to explain my research on ceramics. Not only did he understand, but I managed to make him enthousiastic about the heap of sherds I was looking at! To him I owe the name of this blog, and the realization of how easy it is to demystify archaeology. And my geographical research focus, Central America, happens to be in dire need of demystification.

Ultimately, this blog aims to bring the archaeology of Central America into the public eye.

On the main blog, I publish monthly pieces of 800-1000 words on diverse subjects from my field. Discussed topics range from „new“ discoveries in Central America, the representation of the past, challenging public perspectives on Latin American archaeology as well as archaeological methods & theories explained. Other posts in „notes from the field“ will feature elements of my ongoing research on Honduras.
